Naivety the biggest blessing.
Naivety has always stood me in good stead. When you are naïve the world is your oyster, everything is possible, there are no barriers, you don’t know or think what can go wrong. You just dive right in.
When I owned my own recruitment company, I would call CEOs of corporates, walk into businesses off the street, headhunt the crème de la crème of people and all of this is without hesitation or thinking anything negative could go wrong or that perhaps I would be rejected.
I try to do this with my textile art, I find something I like, and I dive right in, I pour myself into it, I learn the technique, I research it, I source the expert, I buy the book, I practice and practice and time myself. I do not think of the outcome, I try and tap into my inner being and let the process flow, but I do use a lot of outside prompts, and inspiration.
Unfortunately, as I get older it becomes less and less and fear and self-doubt begins to set in. This is a plague that must be avoided. I try to block out negative thoughts.
